2011 Rowing

Rowing is offered to students from Year 9 to 12 at Loreto Mandeville Hall Toorak. It is a term based activity with the pre season commencing in Term 4 and the competitive season taking place in Term 1. The girls are selected into crews, either a quad scull or a sweep four, in line with the Selection Policy and are allocated a coach who will train the crew between three and five times per week. Training takes place on the Yarra River at Melbourne Rowing Club. Rowers also undertake land training sessions in the Barry Centre at school. The girls train during the week and compete in lead up regattas each Saturday throughout the Term 1 Rowing Season.

In Term 3 the Year 8 students have the opportunity to try rowing in the Learn to Row program. This program is free and runs for two weeks. This is followed by a four week Development Program which costs approximately $140. At the conclusion of this program, students can decide if they would like to become part of the Loreto Mandeville Hall Rowing Squad which will train throughout Term 4 and Term 1 and compete at the Head of the Schoolgirls' Regatta.

Regattas

The Rowers compete at approximately seven regattas throughout the season. These take place at various locations throughout Victoria, the main regatta centres being at Carrum, Nagambie and Geelong. The Head of the Schoolgirls' Regatta takes place in March and is the major competition for the rowers. The rowing squad travels to Geelong and stays at a motel on the Friday and Saturday of the competition. Racing occurs on Saturday from 8.00am - 5.00pm and concludes Sunday at 2.30pm.

Camps

The whole squad attends a four day camp in Geelong in December after scheduled classes have finished. The senior squad attends a six day camp in Nagambie in January in the second last week of the school holidays. These two camps are billed separately from the rowing fees. All girls attend a five day camp during the last week of the summer holidays. The cost of this camp is included in the fees.

Fees

The Rowing fee covers the basic running costs of the program including coaching, race entry fees and equipment maintenance. Camps and the Head of the Schoolgirls Regatta weekend are billed separately.

Uniform

PE Uniform along with a hat and shoes that can get wet are compulsory on all training days, camps and regattas.
