On Thursday 3 September, Loreto Toorak students were privileged to attend a session, presented by Loreto Academy; An Audience with Emily Brewin, Author and Writing Educator.

She has been awarded an Australian Society of Authors Emerging Writers' and Illustrators' Mentorship, and has been shortlisted for Hachette Australia's Manuscript Development Program and Varuna's Publisher Introduction Program. In 2018, she was awarded a two residencies to develop her third novel, The Piano. A highly aclaimed author, Emily's short stories have been short listed for many literary awards.
A small but very interested group of students and staff attended the session. Emily was great and very generous with her time and ‘tips' while explaining her personal literary journey.
Some feedback from our students included:
"I loved learning about her Emily's process particularly, something I have never been exposed to before."
"It was very interesting to hear her personal experience and writing processes and how messy an experience it can be – and also rewarding in so many ways!".
"What a lovely way to spend the afternoon! I loved it and thought Emily's passion was evident. I found myself getting passionate about writing and I don't write!".
Emily also offered lots of advice and contacts for getting involved with other writers. We are very grateful to Emily for sharing her time with us.
