An Audience With Simon Burke

On Thursday 10 September, Loreto Toorak students were privileged to attend a session, presented by Loreto Academy; An Audience with with Simon Burke, AO – Actor.

We had a great number of 17 students in attendance with a very good representation of senior students, especially those doing Theatre Studies and those who are really keen in pursuing a career in the Performing Arts. Staff were also very well represented.

Simon Burke is an Australian actor in film, television and theatre.

Recipient of the AFI Award for Best Actor, he is the co-creator and executive producer of the mini-series, The Devil's Playground, which won both the AACTA and Logie Awards for Most Outstanding Telefeature or Mini-Series.

Simon has held the positions of Federal President of Actors Equity Australia 2004–2014 and a Vice President of the International Federation of Actors (FIA).

In 2015, Simon was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to the performing arts as an actor, singer and producer, and through senior advocacy roles for performers' rights and access to professional development and education programs.

"I think it was incredible to be able to talk to industry professionals - to even have that opportunity was amazing, and even my parents were incredibly interested to hear from Simon in particular. I think hearing from a professional in an area that is studied explicitly at school was particularly useful, as hearing direct tips on, for example, how to approach monologues, felt very timely." – Elizabeth (Year 11)
