Contemporary Artist Darren Sylvester visits Loreto Toorak
Fresh from his highly successful major solo exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria, Carve a Future, Devour Everything, Become Something, Darren Sylvester visited Loreto Toorak this week to talk to our Year 12 Studio Arts classes about his work, career and the exhibition of his artworks.
As part of the Year 12 Studio Arts course, students are required to visit two exhibitions in two different exhibition spaces. This year our classes were fortunate to visit two of Sylvester's exhibitions; firstly his NGV retrospective which celebrated his 20 year career as an artist working in Melbourne; and secondly, an exhibition of his current work which was presented in the commercial gallery, Neon Parc and entitled Forever Twenty one.
It was such a privilege to have Darren Sylvester talk to our students and for them to be able to engage in conversations with him and ask him questions about his career and life as an artist. This experience will be immensely beneficial for the girls as they complete their upcoming SAC and then work towards preparing for their examination at the end of the year.
