Each For Equal - International Women's Day

An equal world is an enabled world. How will you help forge a gender equal world? Celebrate women's achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality.

On Friday 6 March, the Loreto Toorak community of staff, students, parents and past pupils gathered to mark International Women's Day (Sunday 8 March) and contemplate how they can promote #eachforequal in this modern world.

Over a light breakfast in the Mandeville Centre Gallery and Lecture Theatre, the community gathered to hear guest speaker and Loreto past pupil, Mary Muirhead OAM BVSc, orate on the 2020 IWD theme #eachforequal. Mary drew on her experience as founder and Director of Learning for Life, a not-for-profit organisation set up to help children with autism achieve their full potential. Mary touched the audience with her heartfelt, unassuming style, and her presentation was informative and inspirational, with some guests claiming, "Best ever IWD".

"At Loreto Toorak, International Women's Day acts as a reminder to celebrate the achievements of all women at our school and acknowledge the rights of women worldwide. In the Loreto Year of Verity, we seek to truthfully encourage our students to use their greatest gifts to take pride in being a woman. By promoting this remarkable day at our school, awareness for a better and more equal world can be experienced by all students, teachers and parents." - Mia O'Callaghan and Francesca Zappia, Captains of School.
