Student Wellbeing

At Loreto Toorak, student wellbeing is at the heart of a holistic education. We recognise that young people thrive when they feel known, supported and connected. Our pastoral and wellbeing programs help every student build confidence, resilience and a strong sense of self, empowering her to navigate life with purpose and direction.

We value the partnership between School, home and community, knowing that when families and educators work together, students are best placed to flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

A Personalised Approach to Pastoral Care

The Pastoral Program at Loreto Toorak is designed to support each student’s individual wellbeing needs, while responding to emerging social and emotional challenges. Guided by annual student wellbeing data, our approach evolves to ensure students receive meaningful and relevant support throughout their educational journey.

Students find encouragement through strong relationships with Homeroom Teachers, Heads of Year, Subject Teachers, the Director of Students and School Psychologists. This network of care fosters positive self-regard, respectful relationships, responsible decision-making and personal resilience.

Through every stage of schooling, students discover opportunities to strengthen their wellbeing and sense of belonging.

EMPOWER

The Loreto Toorak EMPOWER Program is the foundation of our wellbeing approach from Preparatory to Year 12.

Grounded in the values of Freedom, Justice, Sincerity, Verity and Felicity, EMPOWER encourages students to understand themselves, care for others and contribute positively to the wider community. Through a nurturing and faith-filled environment, students are inspired to use their individual gifts with confidence, creativity and generosity.

Our wellbeing curriculum is intentionally woven throughout School life, helping students develop the emotional and practical skills needed to meet challenges with courage. Students learn to understand their emotions, build healthy habits and develop the self-regulation skills that support both wellbeing and academic achievement.

Through EMPOWER, students find the confidence to lead with integrity and compassion, becoming young women prepared to shape the future.

The EMPOWER Framework

The EMPOWER Program is informed by a range of evidence-based wellbeing approaches, including:

  • Emotional literacy
  • Metacognition
  • Positive education
  • Opportunity and engagement
  • Wellbeing science and health
  • Environmental connection
  • Respectful relationships and social and emotional learning

Together, these elements create a comprehensive wellbeing framework that supports every student’s growth, development and sense of purpose.

A Community Where She Thrives

At Loreto Toorak, wellbeing is more than a program. It is a culture of care, connection and personal growth. Through strong pastoral support, innovative wellbeing education and meaningful partnerships with families, students find the confidence to embrace opportunities, overcome challenges and pursue their unique path.

Wellbeing in Rathfarnham

In our Junior School, Rathfarnham, pastoral care forms an essential part of every child's learning journey from Preparatory to Year 6.

Age-appropriate wellbeing programs support students as they develop confidence, emotional awareness and positive relationships during these formative years. A dedicated Pastoral Care team, including Homeroom Teachers, the Director and Deputy Director of Rathfarnham, the Positive Education Co-ordinator and School Psychologists, works closely with students and families to nurture wellbeing and belonging.

Wellbeing from Years 7 to 12

In the Senior School, students benefit from a comprehensive and evidence-informed wellbeing framework that supports both personal growth and academic success.

Our programs include year-level and House activities that strengthen connection and community spirit, transition support for students entering Year 7, and academic mentoring initiatives such as study skills programs and Homework Club. Students in Years 9 to 12 also engage in dedicated careers and pathways programs, helping them explore future opportunities with confidence.

Learning is enriched by guest speakers addressing contemporary social issues, alongside a wellbeing curriculum that explores mental health awareness, consent, respectful relationships, cyber safety and positive online behaviour.

Pastoral Coaching further supports students to set meaningful goals, reflect on progress and develop the self-awareness needed for lifelong success.

Partnering with Families Through the Family Wellbeing Series

At Loreto Toorak, we recognise that wellbeing is strengthened when families and educators work together.

Our Family Wellbeing Series complements the EMPOWER Program by providing parents with practical insights, expert guidance and evidence-informed strategies to support children and adolescents. Covering topics relevant to every stage of development, these sessions help families strengthen relationships, navigate contemporary challenges and foster positive wellbeing outcomes at home.
