21 May 2026 back to previous In the news | A Bright Side to Beekeeping on Channel 7 Loreto Toorak’s unique rooftop beekeeping program has been featured on the Channel 7 Bright Side segment during the 7.00pm bulletin, highlighting the School’s innovative approach to sustainability and hands-on learning. Featuring our Year 6 beekeeping student Gracie, the segment highlights our one-of-a-kind school-wide program. The integration of beekeeping across the curriculum sees our junior and senior students actively involved with managing our 60,000 bees. From naming the queen bees in Preparatory and Year 1, to the Year 6s actively maintaining the hives, and Year 9 students designing the packaging, the initiative brings scientific curiosity, hands on learning, and environmental justice to the forefront of education. The rooftop beekeeping program is more than just a School initiative, providing a small yet meaningful contribution to Melbourne’s wider ecosystem. By supporting biodiversity and pollinators around the community, students see the tangible effect their actions can have on the environment and beyond the classroom.
