29 Apr 2025 back to previous Loreto Toorak Students Journey to Cape York: A Step Towards Reconciliation Loreto Toorak is deeply committed to fostering healing and reconciliation within our country. This commitment recently came to life when 52 of our Year 11 students embarked on an extraordinary journey to Cape York, where they had the privilege of living alongside the First Nations Australians of the Guugu Yimithirr nation. Over nine unforgettable days, our students were welcomed by Traditional Owners and Cultural Educators who generously shared their stories, wisdom, culture, and spirituality. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Tim and Elaine from Panamuunji, Gerry and Irene from Panamuunji, Dora and Trevor from Gumbiir, and Lillian and Richard from Guurriill for their warmth, openness, and profound teachings. The connections forged during this immersion were powerful and deeply moving. In such a short time, our students experienced firsthand the strength, resilience, and beauty of First Nations culture.
