National Reconciliation Week

Loreto Toorak proudly celebrated National Reconciliation Week, held annually between 27 May – 3 June. These dates commemorate two pivotal milestones in Australia's reconciliation journey: the 1967 referendum and the 1992 High Court Mabo decision.

The theme for this year, 'Now More Than Ever', underscored the ongoing efforts needed to achieve healing and justice in our country. Education plays a pivotal role in reconciliation, and by fostering understanding and respect, we can build communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their histories, and cultures.

We embraced National Reconciliation Week with a range of meaningful activities across the School. Our senior students attended a special Assembly dedicated to the theme of reconciliation. Our prayers and daily bulletins highlighted key messages, sparking thoughtful class discussions and art activities that pledge action towards reconciliation. Additionally, students who participated in the Cape York Immersion shared their experiences, further enriching our understanding and commitment.

We acknowledge that #nowmorethanever, there is still much work to be done and we are dedicated to fulfilling our responsibility towards sincere and authentic reconciliation in Australia. By educating our students and engaging in meaningful actions, we strive to contribute to a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are valued and respected.
