Digital Technologies is an elective subject available for Year 9 students at Loreto Toorak.

At the start of the year, students explore how a computer works, computational thinking, and develop problem-solving skills. In a recent class, students learnt about the main components of a laptop (and their acronyms, eg. RAM, SSD), and how they work and interact with each other. A major part of this learning experience was to disassemble a laptop to help to visualise how the parts of a computer fit together.

While the Year 9 students were more than ready to ‘dissect’ the laptops (with some even wearing a lab coat for the part), the challenge for them was to then reassemble the laptops afterwards!

Students can select from a broad range of 31 subjects with specialist teachers providing support and guidance. In Year 9, students choose 3 elective subjects in Semester 1 and 3 in Semester 2.
