Carina Ford - Class Of 1989

Carina Ford

ONE OF AUSTRALIA'S PRE-EMINENT MIGRATION LAWYERS

After leaving Loreto Toorak, Carina Ford (1989) attended Monash University where she received a Bachelor of Laws and Economics. Upon her graduation from university, she continued her studies to become a licensed Administrative and Immigration Law Specialist from Law Institute of Victoria.

For many years Carina worked as an Associate at Gadens Lawyers, Melbourne, before opening her own practice, Carina Ford Immigration Lawyers (CFIL), in 2004. She is an Accredited Immigration Law Specialist, and a registered New Zealand Migration Advisor. Among CFIL’s diverse practice areas are refugee law, sports visa issues, character and identity cancellation matters, employer-sponsored and labour agreements, global talent and business visas, as well as pro bono work dedicated to vulnerable persons.  Carina has worked with several high-profile cases including the Biloela Sri Lankan Family in Australia, and in 2022, Carina was named Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers for Immigration Law, Melbourne.

Carina is a regular presenter for a range of bodies regarding Continuing Professional Development (CPD) topics in immigration law; she writes papers and articles on the Immigration Law service for LexisNexis and sits on several committees.

With so much incredible expertise within her field, her determination and hard work, it is no surprise that she is recognised as one of Australia’s pre-eminent migration lawyers.

In her spare time, Carina enjoys spending time with her family, playing hockey and running in marathons. She recently made time to return to Loreto Toorak on International Women’s Day to share her career experiences and stories with our students, staff and community. We are grateful and proud of the work she has done.

Congratulations, Carina, from all at Loreto Toorak.
